British Bake Off's Chetna Makan pops in to judge a cake competition at Valley Park School in Huntsman Lane, Maidstone

There was a sweet tooth or two in evidence when pupils cooked up some competition.

More than 100 students at Valley Park School in Huntsman Lane, Maidstone, entered a bake-off challenge, judged by Great British Bake-Off contestant Chetna Makan.

Chetna, who was a semi finalist in the fifth series of the BBC show, visited the school to judge the tempting treats, which were whipped up at home for pupils to bring in.

She chose 11-year-old George Mallion’s toffee cake as the winner.

Chetna said: “The winning cake had really unusual flavours, and was very well baked and presented. It was brilliant that so many students took part, and they put in so much effort.”
