Thieves battered their way into a menswear shop with a sledgehammer and stole wedding outfits worth £15,000.

But they may have been disturbed during the raid on Lapel Men’s Hire in Starnes Court, Maidstone, because the trousers and jackets they stole do not match.

Anna Leitch, who owns the shop with her husband, Mark, said: “Because the alarm was going off I think they just grabbed what they could. It might even be someone who needed an outfit for a wedding.

“If they do wear the stuff they are going to look ridiculous because a lot of the trousers they stole were beige and the jackets were navy.”

Police are appealing for witnesses. If you saw anything call Maidstone Police Station on 01622 690055.
