It is believed the male driver ran off while the pair were being treated.

Sinead, 16, who goes to Maidstone Grammar School for Girls, suffered whiplash and bruises to her stomach but fortunately was able to return to school shortly afterwards to study for her AS levels.

Mrs Ferguson, of said: “Sinead doesn’t let stuff faze her and felt she had to get back to school as it’s an important time.

“She is still not comfortable in a car and any vehicles that approach at speed can really upset her. The other day I had to swerve to avoid an HGV that pulled out in front of us. I thought she was getting better but I turned around and she was in floods of tears.

She added: “I am worried when it comes to learning to drive as her confidence has taken a big knock, however I hope she will be a cautious driver because of it.

“I’d appeal to anyone who might know the driver to get in touch with police. As he’s done it once he could do it again.”
