Rogue trading warning from Kent Police after incidents in Platt and Penenden Heath, Maidstone

Police are warning people to stay vigilant after incident of rogue trading in west Kent.

Last month a homeowner in Penenden Heath, Maidstone, was approached by three workmen who demanded an extra £300 for repairs carried out on his property.

The man had already paid £300 for the work but the callers said they would undo their repairs and damage the roof in the process.

Inquiries into the incident are ongoing but anyone with information is urged to call 101 quoting reference YY/2210/16.

In a separate incident earlier this month in Platt, near Sevenoaks, a tradesman claiming to be from a well known company quoted a woman £1,000 for work.

He turned up in an unbranded van and she did not believe his story and refused to pay him.

Officers are warning that while most people will be genuine, some try to trick their way inside to steal valuables and money, or offer services or goods.

The latter can result in them overcharging for unnecessary work, damaging property deliberately, leaving work unfinished or intimidating someone to get money.
