Runner beaten up for having no cigarettes

A jogger was left with cuts to his hand and leg after telling two men he couldn’t give them a cigarette.

Police are now hunting for the two men, who attacked the 19-year-old man in Mote Park, Maidstone, between 5pm and 6pm on Monday July 7.

They say he was running past a wooded area near to the lake when the pair - both described as Asian, in their early 20s, about 5ft 8ins and of medium build - asked him for a cigarette.

When he said he didn't have any, he was attacked by both men, who afterwards ran off in the direction of Mote Park café.

One of the attackers was said to have been well dressed in dark blue jeans and a designer waterproof jacket, while the other was wearing jeans and a jacket.
