Squatters who had set up home in the former NatWest building in Bank Street, Maidstone, have been evicted.

The eviction took place this morning by bailiffs acting for RBS, which owns the disused building, with a police presence.

The group had moved into the building after being evicted from the former library in St Faiths Street a few weeks ago.

Although the eviction was mostly peaceful, two arrests were made. A 17-year-old man was arrested for a public order offence and possession of a controlled drug and a 19-year-old girl was arrested for a public order offence. Both are in custody.

The owners of the building have declined to comment.
