A second weather warning for heavy rain and a thunderstorm has been issued by the Met Office.

The weather company is telling people in the county to expect damage to buildings from lightning, strong winds and travel delays as a result of the yellow alert.

A warning was put in place yesterday until midday today, but it has since been updated and is expected to last until around 3pm.

The Met Office says there is a “good chance” driving conditions will be affected due to spray and standing water which could lead to longer journey times.

People are also being told they could expect some short term power loss.

A spokesman added: “An area of heavy rain and showers will move eastwards, clearing the east of the warning area by mid afternoon.

“Sudden, torrential downpours will bring 15-20 mm of rain in a short period of time, with lightning and hail possible in a few places. Isolated gusts of wind to 40-50 mph are also possible.”

Yellow warnings can be issued for a range of weather situations.

Many are issued when it is likely that the weather will cause some low level impacts, including some disruption to travel in a few places.
