Train hits tree in Yalding suspending services between Tonbridge and Strood

A train has hit a tree on a line near Maidstone, halting all services.

Southeastern said the incident happened at Yalding just before midday, but has since tweeted to say all lines have re-opened.

It means passengers are unable to travel between Tonbridge and Strood.

The firm said the tree has blocked the line in both directions at Yalding and staff are on their way to remove the debris from the tracks.

Just after 2pm the company tweeted to say the lines were now open but some services would see alterations.

Those taking to the railways this weekend are already bracing for problems tomorrow as emergency work is needed to protect the line after a landslip.

It comes as bad weather has also resulted in flood alerts being issued across Kent.
