Services cancelled between Strood and Maidstone West after train hits fallen tree at Snodland

A train was evacuated tonight after it hit a fallen tree in Snodland.

The service from Strood to Paddock Wood struck the tree just before Snodland station at about 6pm.

No one was injured by the impact, but the rails were blocked and the carriages were evacuated.

A small number of passengers decided to wait aboard the train while the extent of the damage was determined.

The fallen tree was removed from the tracks by about 6.45pm and engineers inspected the train for damage.

All services between Strood and Maidstone West were cancelled after the crash, but trains were running again by 8pm, with some delays expected into the night.
