Two held after replica gun is found

TWO men are still helping police with their enquiries today after a member of the public spotted a man wielding what appeared to be a gun in Maidstone town centre at the weekend.

Half of Pudding Lane and most of Medway Street were closed off between 7pm and 9pm on Friday night as armed response units attended the scene.

During their search, police spotted two men in the alleyway next to the Medway Street car park. Two suspects were taken away in a police van and a replica gun was recovered. The two are still being questioned.

Gianna Pollero, spokeswoman for Maidstone and Malling Police, said: “The roads were closed for a fair while but we err on the side of caution with these things. We are there for public protection."
