Two main roads in Maidstone are set to close for 12 week nights while resurfacing work is carried out.
The A20 Tonbridge Road and A20 London Road between Terrace Road and the A229 Broadway will be shut from Tuesday.
There will be full closures between 10pm and 5am sending residents on lengthy diversions via the M20.
Kent County Council says access to and from Barker Road will be 'severely restricted' while the 'essential' works are ongoing and is urging anyone to avoid unnecessary journeys.
In a letter sent to residents, the authority said: "It is inevitable residents and businesses near the works will experience some disruption and we apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused, but we will try to keep this to a minimum.
"Access to properties between the closure points will need to be restricted for a short period while work is carried out in front of each property and across road junctions.
"Works will be phased in such a manner that only the A20 London Road or the A20 Tonbridge Road will be closed at any one time."
The letter urges those who park their cars on the carriage way to move them to another location while the work is carried out.
A closure of Lane 2 will also be in place on the opposing side of the carriageway.
Traffic heading for Tonbridge and Allington will be diverted along the A229 Fairmeadow and onto the Londonbound M20 leaving at Junction 5.
Those heading towards Maidstone will be sent to the Coastbound M20 coming off at Junction 6 for Aylesford.
