Willington Street, Maidstone, has been closed due to burst water main

Motorists are facing delays after a stretch of a busy Maidstone road has been closed following reports of a water leak.

Willington Street, between Madginford Road and Deringwood Drive, was shut around 6.30am today as engineers from South East Water carry out repairs to the fault.

The road is expected to reopen at around 10am with temporary traffic lights operating.

It is thought traffic will remain high in the area until the works are complete.

Motorists are advised to use an alternative route and allow extra time for their journey.

The same stretch of road was closed for six weeks last year to allow the road surface to be upgraded and pipes to be replaced.
