Maidstone United assistant manager Terry Harris frustrated despite 3-1 win at Oxford City

Maidstone's management were unhappy with the second-half performance at Oxford City despite another victory.

The Stones, leading through Roarie Deacon’s header at the break, ran out 3-1 winners at Marsh Lane on Saturday.

Joan Luque extended the lead and Regan Booty made it three at the death after Josh Ashby’s injury-time goal gave Oxford hope.

It was a fourth win in five games for unbeaten United, who sit second in National South.

But Hakan Hayrettin and Terry Harris didn’t like what they saw after the break.

“I thought first half we looked quite organised and we were OK,” said assistant boss Harris.

“Second half, for whatever reason, no, we weren’t good.

“But our organisation at the moment is getting us results and you have to be organised in this league.

“We conceded a poor goal, it just gave them a little bit of hope right at the death, but when we play we’re a good side.

“I’m delighted to get the three points, frustrated with the second-half performance.

“I don’t expect perfection but I get frustrated, and Hak, we get frustrated because we know what it takes to get out of this league, we know because we’ve done it.

“It’s the small margins that trip you up and we’ve just got to get that out of our system and we’ll turn someone over big.

"But if we don’t then we’ve got to be solid, we’ve got to be organised and if it’s a scrappy 1-0, so it’s a scrappy 1-0.

“The football coach in me is frustrated because I know we’re better than what we were second half and if we can up the ante then we’ll be OK.”

Maidstone are awaiting news on defender Joe Ellul who was stretchered off with an ankle injury early in the first half.

He was on crutches at full-time, with his foot in a protective boot.

“He’s going to see the medical side and probably go and get his ankle X-rayed," said Harris.

“To be fair, I didn’t see it. All I heard is apparently he was going backwards and took a leap and maybe just landed awkwardly.”

Ellul’s replacement, Taylor Curran, impressed Harris.

He said: “He did very well because the big lad, Bradbury, up front is a handful and they play quite direct and up to him and play off of him.”

The Stones No.2 also praised left-back Jerome Binnom-Williams, deputising for the injured Raphe Brown.

Harris added: “Jerome came in and was excellent for the first goal as well, great clip to the far post and Roarie was there.”
