Getting ready for play-offs is main focus for boss Jay Saunders as Maidstone United prepare to take on Dartford

Manager Jay Saunders will use the last four games of the season to get Maidstone ready for the play-offs.

United face Kent rivals Dartford at the Gallagher on Saturday (3pm), with Saunders challenging his players to recover quickly from what he sees as the end of their National League South title challenge.

Saunders, who has injury concerns over Joe Healy, said: “What we’ve got to do now is get ourselves right for the play-offs.

“At the moment there’s just a few things we’re not happy with that aren’t quite clicking.

“A few weeks back we were scoring a lot more goals and looking a lot more free-flowing but we lost a few players and have kind of gone the other way.

“We’ve got to work out, if the likes of Healy are missing, how to get it right in the middle.”

Saunders felt the occasion got to Maidstone against Sutton on Tuesday night so it will be interesting to see how they hold their nerve in a Kent derby, in front of another big crowd.

Dartford are still fighting for a play-off place, so it’s just the test Stones are looking for.

Saunders said: “Not only is it a derby, they’re going to be desperate to get the win. I just want the lads to be confident. We can’t have a repeat where we froze a little bit because it’ll be a sell-out again in the play-offs and there will be more on the line."
