Former Maidstone schoolgirl Alessia Russo was a hat-trick hero for England's Women as they thrashed Latvia - but she wasn't the only one.

Ellen White became the Lionesses' record goalscorer with her own hat-trick, while Manchester City's Lauren Hemp scored four and there were also goals for Arsenal's Beth Mead (3), Bethany England (2), Ella Toone, Georgia Stanway, Jill Scott, Jess Carter and Jordan Nobbs.

White, 32, surpassed Kelly Smith's record of 46 and her hat-trick means she now has 48 goals in 101 appearances for England.

Russo, who plays her club football for Manchester United, came off the bench on the hour mark before she struck three times in 11 minutes in the World Cup qualifier with those her first senior international goals.

On Instagram, after the match, 22-year-old Russo wrote: "What a night!

"(A) great way to tick-off 2021 with a special group of girls."

Forward Russo signed for Manchester United in September 2020, having spent three years playing in the United States.

She has previously had spells at Brighton and Chelsea as a youngster.
