Maidstone were held to a fourth successive 1-1 draw at East Thurrock on Tuesday night.

Once again they took the lead - Ben Greenhalgh with his second goal in as many games - but East Thurrock rescued a point midway through the second half.

United are now three points behind Ryman League Premier Division leaders Margate with another three games in hand.

Tom Stephen hit the bar for in-form Thurrock before Greenhalgh gave Stones a 17th-minute lead, pouncing after keeper David Hughes made a mess of Matt Bodkin's cross.

An East Thurrock counter-attack, after Paul Goodacre denied Alex Akrofi a shot on goal, led to the hosts' equaliser on 67 minutes.

East Thurrock won a free-kick which dropped kindly for Sam Higgins in the box.

Stones keeper Lee Worgan made an excellent save from Higgins while Alex Brown had an effort blocked on the line at the other end.

Charley Robertson, back from a loan spell at Faversham, was inches away from a late winner.
