Stones ladies beaten but not disgraced

Maidstone Ladies stay bottom of the Women's Conference East table, after a 2-1 home defeat by Old Loughtonians on Saturday.

The game at Armstrong Road was the only one to beat the "big freeze", and Stones showed plenty of conviction and confidence, but finished on the losing side thanks to a double-strike by Rebecca Halle.

Goalkeeper Jenny Vincent pulled off two reaction saves early on, before Maidstone went ahead, skipper Lizzie Daniels setting-up the opener for Sue Leaning to turn and score.

However the Essex visitors were level a minute after the interval when Rebecca Halle converted a penalty corner.

Stones responded well, winning several peanlty corners, as the game became more physical, with the visitors warned several times by the umpires.

Maidstone were forced to play the final five minutes a player short, and Halle finished well to settle the contest.
