Maidstone United captain George Elokobi makes young fan's day at the Gallagher Stadium

Maidstone United captain George Elokobi made a young fan's day as supporters returned to the Gallagher Stadium for the first time in 16 months.

When little Leon called Elokobi's name from the main stand at the end of Tuesday night's 6-0 friendly win over Sheppey, the Stones skipper waved him over.

He lifted him over the barrier, had a chat and posed for a picture, taken by Leon's mum Vikki.

It was a lovely moment and one Leon will remember for a long time.

Elokobi has always enjoyed a special relationship with Maidstone supporters and felt their absence last season as much as anyone.

He tweeted a video of his encounter with Leon, along with a message to his 70,000 followers: "Brilliant to see so many Maidstone United fans back inside the stadium in our pre-season match.

"This video is what the game is about, inspiring the next generation, when my new young friend called my name and told me he wants to become a footballer."

Maidstone's scorers on the night were Taylor Curran, Roarie Deacon, Jack Barham, Joan Luque (2) and Ibby Akanbi, with more than 500 fans in attendance.
