He enjoyed big success at Home Park, reaching the League 2 play-off final in 2016 and winning automatic promotion a year later.

Brewster said: “I finished at Plymouth Argyle in the summer and Steve phoned me to ask if I would come in and help him while he’s caretaker and I was delighted to.

“Steve was my player at Inverness when I was manager there and I worked with him again at Ross County. I am delighted to team up and see where it goes.”

Watt said: “Craig’s got a wealth of experience in the league and had good success down at Plymouth.

“I am really grateful that he’s come in, I look forward to working with him and hopefully getting some positive results.”

Brewster also had a spell as caretaker manager at Crawley five years ago.
