Maidstone United manager Harry Wheeler tips Alex Finney for Football League career

Maidstone manager Harry Wheeler believes Alex Finney has what it takes to play in the Football League.

Double player-of-the-year Finney joined Aldershot on a free transfer last Friday after losing his place at the Gallagher.

He was named man-of-the-match in the Shots' goalless draw with National League play-off contenders Wrexham and Wheeler still rates the former Bolton and QPR youngster.

He said: "I think Alex Finney could definitely be a Football League player.

"Potentially, he’s an excellent centre-half.

"He was very honest with his performances recently and he felt he’d let us down.

"I think he has a fantastic attitude, I think he’s a great footballer, he’s got great attributes.

"I think he needs to go and play regularly.

"We had a few offers from the league below but he showed a desire to stay at this level and Gary (Waddock, Aldershot boss) wanted to take him and give him a chance.

"Hopefully it works for him but we just felt for now, where we are, we need the been there, done it men.

"It’s time for them to step up and show that they’ve been there and done it and do it again."
