Former Miss Universe GB Amy Willerton who starred in I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here! visits RSPCA in Castle Way, Leybourne

You could forgive I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here contestant Amy Willerton for not being a fan of animals after coming face to face with spiders, eels, and snakes in the jungle.

But the former Miss Universe for Great Britain was surrounded by more cuddly company on a trip to the RSPCA centre in Leybourne on Saturday.

The 22-year-old beauty queen received a tour of the charity, based in Castle Way, West Malling and got to meet some of the dogs and cats searching for loving homes.

She also made a donation at the end of her visit.

The centre is currently full to capacity, looking after around 90 cats and 50 dogs as well as rabbits, guinea pigs, cockerels, birds, hamsters.

Manager Christine Dooley said: “She was extremely interested in work we were doing, and finding out the histories of two dogs we had arriving.

"It was nice to have someone so high profile show an interest and I think she thoroughly enjoyed herself meeting some lovely animals.”

It was arranged thanks to centre volunteer of four years Tanya Walker, who was a finalist in the Miss Earth competition in 2011 and a former ambassador for the pageant’s affiliated Girls4Trees which supports environmental awareness, animal protection and conservation.

The 28-year-old said: “All the staff do a fantastic job and Christine and Mike Dooley who run it are such lovely people that its a pleasure to be a part of the team there.

"So having a beautiful kind-hearted friend like Amy it was lovely to be able to bring her along to help raise more awareness for the centre.”
