Bull Lane junction, Eccles: Meeting set to discuss safety strategy

Villagers are due to meet with politicians and transport experts on Thursday to discuss their campaign to improve safety at a busy junction.

The Bull Lane Safety Committee (BLSC) will be joined by Aylesford MP Tracey Crouch, parish councils, borough councillors and KCC’s cabinet member for transport Matthew Balfour and schemes planning and delivery officer Nikola Floodgate at St Mark’s Primary School, in Eccles Row, Eccles, at 7pm.

The group is campaigning for better visibility and safety measures at the junction of Bull Lane and Pilgrims Way – which is regularly used by motorists from Burham, Wouldham and Eccles – and has collected more than 1,000 signatures in support of their aim.

Now Peter’s Bridge, which connects Halling and Wouldham, is open villagers say traffic volumes have increased, something KCC has previously denied.

Trudy Clark, of BLSC, said members had carried out a traffic survey and plan to present the results to KCC at the meeting.

She added: “We are expecting high numbers and will be disappointed with anything less than 100 people. The response on the doorsteps has been phenomenal.

“Visibility is a big issue but the main problem is speeding drivers. People don’t take notice of signs. We are highlighting the problem and it is down to KCC to do something about it.”

A feasibility study has been carried out by KCC with the outcome due next month.
