Emergency search after possible 'sighting of someone' in River Medway

A large emergency operation along the River Medway between Peter's Bridge at Halling and the M2 Motorway bridge at Borstal, continues this evening.

Police say they had a call at 3.40pm regarding a possible sighting of someone in the river between Halling and Wouldham.

Officers are were at the scene carrying out a search of the water along with the Coastguard, RNLI and Kent Fire and Rescue Service.

Several ambulances are on standby in the area.

Some areas of the search has been scaled-down and the emergency services were seen leaving the Borstal area just after 7pm.

However, teams are still at Peter's Bridge near Halling this evening and have set up operations on it and on the banks of the river.

A spokesman for Kent Fire and Rescue Service, said: "Kent Fire and Rescue Service was called to assist Kent Police at an incident on the River Medway at around 16:56pm."
