He will also have to pay compensation of more than £1,000 to his victims.

Appearing before Maidstone Crown Court, the thief was sentenced for shoplifting offences on August 6, after pleading guilty to 12 counts of theft and an assault.

At a later hearing he admitted five counts of theft from a motor vehicle and 10 counts of vehicle interference.

The repeat offender stole from service stations, supermarkets and cars parked around Holborough Lakes. His crimes started in December 2018.

On one occasion, he took items from a car on Church Row, including foreign currency of 500 United Arab Emirates Dirham banknotes.

He tried to exchange the cash into English money at a post office.

He went to shops and made off with items including meat, alcohol and razors, as well as fragrances valued at more than £300.

Sgt John Fordham of the Tonbridge district targeting team said: "Grossett will take any opportunity to steal from other people.

"He is a person who clearly has no regard for the impact his offending will have on his victims and despite previous warnings and chances offered by the courts seems completely unwilling to change his ways.

"His repeated offending not only left businesses substantially out of pocket but left staff feeling vulnerable too. Added to this he has persistently preyed upon hard working and law abiding residents, targeting cars and property with the aim of stealing anything he could get his hands on."
