Larkfield resident Terry Edwards mistaken for Snodland paedophile with same name

A dad-of-five who shares his name with a convicted paedophile has faced more than a decade of abuse.

Larkfield resident Terry Edwards says he has considered taking his own life due to a series of threats resulting from the other man being jailed in 2011.

While Terry continues to deal with the misunderstanding, the child abuser has served his sentence and is believed to have changed his name by deed poll.

A recent surge in threats have escalated to the point where he had to call the police on Tuesday, after receiving voice recordings from people saying they were waiting for him outside his children's school.

He said he was told by the police to call 999 if there was an emergency, but he added: "I'm just worried it's going to be too late to call them."

The 37-year-old continued: "I've been getting threatening messages from people, saying they've got my address, and they're coming for me, and I better watch my back because they're going to ram me off the road if they see me in the car.

"I'm too scared to do the school runs now, where people are sat outside the school waiting for me, or are people looking at me and thinking, 'oh, that Terry Edwards is at the school'?

"I'm so wary everywhere I go. Even when I go shopping I just stay in the car now. I feel like people are always watching me.

"I can't even get on public transport either because I feel like people are sitting there staring at me all the time. It's horrible."

Terry also says fake Facebook accounts have been set up under his name, with pictures of himself or his loved ones, sending offensive messages to people, and threats to his family.

Now the other Terry has changed his name, he says people assume he's the paedophile.

The former security guard, who has his sixth child on the way, said the abuse is affecting his family, too.

This is the third time he has approached KentOnline to tell his story in the hope people will realise the mistake. We also interviewed him in 2012 and 2019.

He said: "I'm just scared for my kids now really. My little girl has just come out of hospital for open heart surgery, and she's disabled. I don't need all this. I'm just wary of taking her out and everything now.

"My partner says, 'you shouldn't have to be like that. I want to go out', but I'm just wary of going out."

His sister has also received threatening messages, which he said have made her "pretty upset".

He added: "It just upsets me. It's so emotional all the time."

Terry said the threats have also taken a heavy toll on his mental health.

He continued: "I've suffered with depression, and I've even thought about taking my own life over it, but I shouldn't have to be like that.

"I've had trouble sleeping at night. I get like two hours of sleep at night because I'm scared someone's going to come through the door at me.

"My depression has got really bad at the moment. I just feel like breaking down wherever I go. I feel like it's pulling my family apart."

The unemployed dad added: "I just want people to leave me alone. I just want to get on with my life, live my life with my children, but I can't do that the whole time I'm getting threats."
