Robert Jenner, from Snodland, on trial for 11 offences of exposing himself

The jury has gone out in the trial of ex-soldier who told a jury he went "commando" to promote his beliefs in naturism.

Robert Jenner said he didn't wear underpants while working as a delivery driver, beneath his jeans with a hole cut in the crotch.

Dressed in a dark suit, white shirt and brown tie, the 44-year-old said didn't mean to shock people.

He said that after his time with the territorial and regular armies, including a tour of duty in Iraq, he became a carpenter.

His barrister Kate Chidgey asked: "Do you consider yourself to be a naturist?"

Jenner, of Bingley Close, Snodland, added: "Yes, to me naturism means being open.”

Dressed in a smart black suit, white shirt and tie he was asked what reactions he received when he was out and about.

He replied: “Most people are indifferent. Some are bemused and laughing and joking.

"I can't think of a time when someone was alarmed, or shocked."

Jenner said he had been on naturist trips to Alton Towers and other theme parks in the West Country and on naked bike rides.

He added he had also visited naturist beaches and was asked if he was naked and replied: “Yes... well unless the temperature fell.”

Jenner revealed that in February 2017 he was acquitted on 13 charges of disorderly behaviour following a trial.

He told the jury he cut a hole in his blue and black jeans when it became frayed and did it to promote naturism.

The self-styled naturist is accused of exposing his manhood to unsuspecting householders while delivering parcels in the Maidstone area.

Canterbury Crown Court heard how Jenner worked delivering parcels for nationwide courier service Hermes... wearing jeans with a hole cut out in the crotch, it was alleged.

Jenner has denied 11 offences of exposing himself and the jury has retired to consider its verdict; including to a teenage girl.

Prosecutor Daniel Stevenson had alleged that Jenner sometimes wore see-through tights or shorts at a supermarket, shopping centre and near a children’s play area.

"The prosecution say it is his aim is that the deliberate exposure of his penis has nothing at all to do with naturism and the only explanation is that he was acting in a deliberately provocative manner... with the full intention of causing as much alarm and distress as possible," he said.
