Police officers and paramedics were called to the scene.

By around 7.40am two lanes had reopened but two remained closed due to the oil spillage and debris.

One lane was also shut on the eastbound carriageway to allow the emergency services to work safely at the scene.

The closures were in place until emergency resurfacing works could be completed overnight and by 2.40am this morning (April 1) all lanes had reopened.

There were no significant delays in the area, according to National Highways.

Motorists were being diverted along the A228 and the A20.
