Tonbridge man charged after car broken into in Avebury Avenue and bank card stolen

A man has been charged after a bank card was stolen from a car and used.

On the evening of January 25, a victim reported his car which was parked in Avebury Avenue, Tonbridge, had been broken into.

A wallet was reportedly taken from the vehicle’s glove box and a bank card was later used to make fraudulent purchases at shops in the town centre.

Local constables visited three businesses where more than £100 worth of items had been bought.

On Sunday (January 29), a 31-year-old suspect was located and arrested. Officers also seized some cannabis.

Bobby Thorpe, of Royal West Kent Avenue, Tonbridge was later charged with three counts of fraud, dishonestly handling stolen property and possession of cannabis.

He was remanded in custody to appear before Medway Magistrates’ Court today (February 1).
