Crash causes delays on M20 London-bound at junction 4 for Leybourne

Delays have cleared after an early-morning crash on the M20.

The accident happened on the London-bound side near junction 4 for Leybourne at around 6.40am.

The motorway was completely closed initially, but two lanes of three reopened soon after. The road was clear by 8.30am but delays remained until around 10am.

At one point, congestion stretched back to junction 7 for Maidstone and Detling Hill.

A police spokesman said: "Kent Police was called to a reported road traffic collision on the M20 London-bound at 6.40am on Thursday 20 October.

"It was initially reported that three vehicles were involved and all had stopped in lane three of three.

"Officers attended the scene and, to ensure public safety, a closure was enforced to clear the vehicles from the live lane.

"No injuries have been reported."

There are also queues through Maidstone this morning due to resurfacing works on the gyratory system, with many roads gridlocked as a result, including Loose Road, and the A229 from Bluebell Hill.

KCC Highways are also warning drivers of congestion on the A20 between New Hythe Lane and Terrace Road.
