Nikki Clarke of Mitchell Road, Kings Hill, said: "It's causing many of us to feel nauseous, with sore eyes, dry throats and even feeling physically sick.

"The smell is like no other and is getting into people’s homes, even with the windows shut!"

The source of the smell has already been identified by Tonbridge and Malling Council's environment team as being a new anaerobic digestion plant being built at Blaise Farm Quarry, in Kings Hill.

The digester is not yet in operation, but tests are currently being carried out.

The Environment Agency is responsible for checking conditions at the plant.
