Snodland alcoholic Carol-Ann Cousins handed suspended jail sentence for pestering neighbour

A woman dubbed "the neighbour from hell" has been given another chance – despite taunting her innocent victim again.

Alcoholic Carol-Ann Cousins shouted "I will never forgive you for what you have done" at the mother-of-two – leaving her upset and scared.

The 58-year-old was released from prison earlier in the year after defying a court order which banned her from walking past her victim’s home after repeated drunken outbursts.

Cousins, of St Benedict Road, Snodland, was re-arrested and ordered to return to prison to complete the sentence.

Maidstone Crown Court had heard how she had been ordered not to walk on the same side as her victim after pestering the family constantly.

But she breached the order eight times – including five times in less than a week – in March and then August last year.

Cousins, who has a criminal record of 32 offences, many for being drunk and disorderly, received a jail sentence but was released only to repeat her abuse in June.

Maidstone Crown Court heard how she admitted two similar offences of breaching a restraining order which happened on June 6.

Prosecutor Murray Smith said the victim was walking at 5pm when Cousins called her a "b***** c***, evil".

She later revealed: "I don't know what she will do. My children don't like playing on the green outside because they are scared as she watches them, they were upset and scared."

James Harrison, defending, said Cousins felt isolated and wants now to tackle her addiction.

Passing a 13-month jail sentence suspended for 18 months, Judge Robert Lazarus said there had been a long-standing history between Cousins and her neighbour.

He said: "You subjected her to harassment and for a greater part you are unable to explain why. Your long-standing problems with alcohol fuels that harassment."

Part of the order means for 12 weeks she will also have to attend a residential home where her addiction can be treated.
