Jeremy Corbyn picture used by troops for target practice slammed by Tom Tugendhat

An MP has slammed a "disgraceful" video of soldiers shooting at a picture of Jeremy Corbyn.

The footage, filmed within the last few days, shows four soldiers in target practice with the words "happy with that" across the screen.

It then pans around to a picture of the Labour leader.

Ex-army man Tom Tugendhat tweeted his disgust at the footage, which has been retweeted more than 2,000 times.

The MP for Tonbridge and Malling said: "This is disgraceful and falls far below the standards expected of @BritishArmy soldiers."

The director for engagement and communications for the army, Neil Sexton, responded saying: "You are right, Tom. This behaviour is totally unacceptable and falls well below the standard the Army expects.

"An investigation has been launched and I can’t comment any more until it has run its course."

The Ministry of Defence has confirmed the video has not been doctored. It was filmed in a loft shooting range in Afghanistan and they used simulated paint rounds rather than real bullets.

The soldiers are from the third batallion parachute regiment regiment are due home soon.

Kent's only Labour MP, Rosie Duffield, said: “If the video is as it appears to be then it is completely unacceptable. The Army has already said that it is unacceptable and both it and The Ministry of Defence are investigating the matter further.

"Politicians from all parties have already condemned the video.”
