Three arrests after cash machine tampered with at Tesco in Lunsford Park, Larkfield

Three men have been arrested after a witness thought they saw a supermarket ATM being tampered with.

Police were called out just after 3am on Wednesday after a member of the public and an employee reported suspicious activity at the Tesco supermarket in Lunsford Park, Larkfield.

Patrols searched the area and later stopped a car at Junction 2 of the M20 for Wrotham.

Three men from Essex aged 28, 30 and 32 were arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and theft.

A quantity of cash and some tools were also seized.

Det Insp Jon Faulkner of Kent Police said: "We are reminding people to be vigilant around cash machines. If you see somebody acting suspiciously or an ATM appears to have been tampered with, report it immediately to the bank or contact the police on 101 or 999 in an emergency.

"If you insert your card and it appears to be retained or jammed, or cash fails to be dispensed, check the fascia and notify your service provider immediately."

The men were later bailed to return to police on May 3.
