"I would like to sit down with him across the table with a cup of coffee and say: ‘Why did you do it?’"

Those are the moving words of Amanda Crook, whose son-in-law killed her husband, daughter and grandson in an arson attack at her home in Chatham Hill.

The 50-year-old and her surviving family spoke exclusively to the Medway Messenger as part of a 10-page special edition, out tomorrow.

Our coverage gives the full story the Chatham Hill case, examining every twist and turn and revealing how the victims fear they will never get answers.

Mrs Crook, who gave an interview alongside her son, daughter and parents, says she was the last to believe her son-in-law burned his own son alive – even when she faced him in court.

The six-week murder trial, the biggest in Medway for several years, ended dramatically on Friday when car salesman Danai Muhammadi, 24, was found guilty of three murders and two attempted murders.

Maidstone nightclub bouncer Farhad Mahmud, 35, was guilty of the same charges while unemployed Emma Smith, 21, of The Barley Lea, Coventry, was convicted of three manslaughters.
