The vehicle was subsequently found abandoned in St John’s Road, Higham, and a search of the area took place, with assistance provided by two police dogs.

A team of armed officers responded to the incident, because they were the nearest to the scene.

A 21-year-old man from Minster, Sheerness, was subsequently arrested in High View, Higham, on suspicion of theft of motor vehicle and failing to stop when requested to do so by an officer.

He has since been released, pending further inquiries.
