Man arrested following roof drama at Chatham railway station

A man is in custody after walking onto the roof of a station leading to hours of delays for commuters.

The black-clothed figure was spotted at Chatham railway station at about 3.20pm yesterday leading to the area being locked down by police.

British Transport Police, Kent Police and the fire service were on the scene forcing hundreds of people to crowd outside the station.

Some services were cancelled and others delayed while they dealt with the incident.

Just after 5.30pm the police tape was lifted and people were allowed back in to the station.

A 21-year-old man from Rochester was arrested by British Transport Police on suspicion of trespassing and criminal damage.

He remains in custody.

It was the third incident at Medway train stations in a week.

One person died after being hit by a train on Wednesday and a man died after being hit by a train at the weekend on the tracks between Strood and Gravesend.
