Anti-Brexit musician Peter Cook bids for Christmas number one with new song, Theresa May’s a Remainer

An anti-Brexit campaigner is bidding for a Christmas number one despite being left battered and bruised by thugs.

Peter Cook, 60, was punched at Gillingham train station after youths taunted him for wearing an anti-Brexit t-shirt back in October, and despite being left with two black eyes has continued campaigning.

Having taken part in marches, the Gillingham musician has taken to the streets with his guitar and amplifier, chasing Theresa May around the capital to make his point, and released a song on Friday called “Theresa May’s a Remainer”, which he hopes will top the festive charts.

This week he even appeared on Norwegian TV, and was accosted again in Gillingham on his way to meet the film crew.

“As I came out of Aldi, I had my t-shirt on and some guy must have seen it. He popped his head out and was shouting, swearing at me to go over the Channel if I didn’t like it here.

“A Rastafarian walked past and we both rolled our eyes; and there were two other people walking who thought he was shouting at them. I explained it was directed at me and that I had been punched before. They said ‘we voted leave but we didn’t vote for that. We want a civil society’.”

And he added: “We can’t let a little thing like being punched get in the way."

British Transport Police say they are still investigating the attack at Gillingham station on October 22. Call 0800 40 50 40 or text 61016, quoting 611 of October 22 if you have any information which could help the investigation.
