By-election candidates announced for Peninsula ward on Medway Council following death of Cllr Mick Pendergast

Seven people have thrown their hat into the ring to become a councillor.

Medway Council announced a by-election in Peninsula ward will be held on Thursday, December 8 following the death of Cllr Mick Pendergast.

The Independent councillor had been one of three representatives for the area.

Cllr Pendergast - who passed away last month following a short battle with cancer - had been the landlord of The Nags Head in Stoke village, and was elected in 2015.

Chief executive of Medway council, Neil Davies, described him as a "well-respected" and "passionate" councillor

Those who will be vying for the seat are: George Crozer, Independent; David Hodges, Labour; Sharon Jackson, Independent; Harold Ogunfemi, Conservative; Ben Rist, Liberal Democrats; Chris Spalding, Independent and Julian Sutton, Green Party.

The deadline for applications to register to vote is 12am on Tuesday, November 22.

The deadline for new applications or amendments for postal votes is 5pm on Wednesday, November 23.
