Tiny Tugs nursery at Medway Maritime Hospital closed for repairs after break-in

Children of hospital workers had to stay at home for three days after their nursery was trashed by vandals.

Tiny Tugs nursery at Medway Maritime Hospital had to close while repair work was carried out after a break-in.

Police said the hospital’s social club was also broken into overnight on Tuesday, October 28, and charity boxes containing cash were stolen.

Officers have issued a CCTV image of a man they believe may be able to help with inquiries.

A spokesman for Medway NHS Foundation Trust, which manages the hospital in Windmill Road, Gillingham, confirmed the nursery was broken into.

She said: “Tiny Tugs was broken into on the night of Tuesday, October 28.

“The nursery remained closed for three days to carry out repair work, ensuring the environment is safe. The nursery has now reopened.

“The trust continues to support police investigations.”

A police spokesman said: “Nothing is reported missing but the room was damaged.

“Some charity boxes containing cash were reportedly stolen from the social club.

“A man on a bicycle, described as white, slim, in his early 30s and with facial hair, was seen outside the premises around the time. It is believed he may have information that would assist officers.

“He is described as wearing a light grey hooded top, dark trousers and white trainers.”
