Chicken fire in Borstal

Firefighters are urging people not to leave their cooking unattended after a blaze broke out in Borstal.

A crew called to Sheridan Court last night (Tuesday) after a pensioner’s dinner caught fire.

The woman, believed to be in her 70s, was said to have left chicken in a pan while she went next door.

She was alerted to the fire by a smoke alarm around 6.30pm.

Firefighters had to ventilate the smoke-filled property in Borstal Street.

A spokesman for Kent Fire and Rescue warned people to take care when in the kitchen and not to leave cooking unattended.
