Her son Jamie Burnett, of Old Road Chatham, was arrested and has since been charged with murder.

A post-mortem examination revealed she suffered a stab wound.

A bouquet of flowers has been rested up against her front door.

As a mark of respect, St Margaret's Church, High Street, Rainham, tolled its bells at around 10.25am.

The congregation gathered in silence to pray for all those involved in the tragic death.

The vicar of the church, Rev Nathan Ward, was deeply saddened to learn of the loss of one of the parish residents.

He said: "As a church we are devastated by the news of Lesley’s untimely and shocking death.

"We will do all that we can to support the family and community at this time whether that is through prayer or practical assistance."

Burnett, 27, was arrested in Rainham High Street and is due to appear at Maidstone Crown Court tomorrow.
