Armed robber who reportedly escaped from HMP Springhill in Aylesbury is found in Gillingham

A man who reportedly escaped prison while serving an eight-year sentence for armed robbery was found and arrested in Gillingham.

Nicholas Doyley, 47, allegedly fled HMP Springhill in Aylesbury on October 1, after being jailed in 2019 for the offence in London.

Doyley, who is originally from Beckenham, admitted robbery and possession of a firearm at Woolwich Crown Court in November 2019.

However, on October 1, he is said to have managed to escape from custody from the Buckinghamshire prison.

After he had allegedly absconded, Thames Valley Police appealed for the public's help in locating him.

Officers issued his picture and said at the time if anyone saw him they should not approach him but dial 999 immediately.

However, he was located in Margate Close, Gillingham on October 22 and was arrested by Kent Police, the force has confirmed.

He and appeared before magistrates in Medway on October 24, where he faced a charge of escaping from lawful custody.

Doyley did not enter a plea in relation to the charge and the case against him was sent to Maidstone Crown Court to be dealt with.

He was remanded in custody ahead of his next appearance on November 21.
