Coronavirus Kent: Rainham woman keeps family close this Easter with the help of guys, teddies and creativity

A woman from Rainham has come up with the idea of 'Easter Guys' to pass the time and tackle loneliness during the coronavirus lockdown.

Maggie Francis and her husband Ivor had recently returned from Mauritius after celebrating his 70th birthday, just before the Covid-19 restrictions began.

Maggie said: "When we got back obviously lockdown began and now we're unable to see any friends and family for Easter.

"So I came up with the idea of the Easter Guy!

"We were painting our bench during our garden tidy up after the winter, and when it was all finished it made us quite sad that nobody would be able to come round and sit on it.

"So, we decided to invite other kinds of guests, from teddies to old fashioned guys like on bonfire night or even other ways to represent our families.

"I let our friends know and so far everyone's got really excited.

"It could be anything to take your mind of things, and it doesn't just have to be for Easter, it could be at any time.

"They don’t have to be on a bench, If you make characterisations of someone, it can be in or with the appropriate surroundings!

"The gardener with tools or wheelbarrow's maybe a drunken uncle propped up slumped in the corner, there are no rules!"
