Former EastEnders actor Danny Dyer heads all-star team in charity match for A Life For Leo Foundation at Chatham Town FC

Actor Danny Dyer was part of an all-star celebrity football match, played in aid of a Kent charity.

The former East Enders star was at Chatham Town FC on Sunday afternoon, for the event which raised money for children with an ultra-rare genetic condition.

He was joined by EastEnders actors Jake Wood, Dean Gaffney, and Matt Lapinskas, along with Impossible singer James Arthur, The Only Way Is Essex cast member Dan Osborne and series 10 Love Island’s Josh Brocklebank.

Organised by the firm Sellebrity Soccer, the match raised money for the TBCD - A Life For Leo Foundation, which became a registered charity earlier this year.

The initiative was first launched as a fundraising page by mum Lucinda Andrews, from Lordswood, to fund research for her son Leo, who was born with an ultra-rare genetic condition in March 2021.

When he was born, Leo could not move his arms, and after being transferred to St Thomas' Hospital in London, it was discovered Leo had a rare genetic disorder that affects a gene, known as TBCD.

The incurable and deteriorating condition affects the brain, nervous system, and muscles, causing epileptic seizures and breathing problems, and is so unknown it does not even have a name, so is referred to by the gene it impacts.

But Lucinda, 33, has refused to give up hope and spent months researching before she began working with biotech company Rarebase in California, which deals in innovative drug research.

The game, set to kick off at 6pm, was delayed by half an hour due to long queues of fans trying to get into the ground.

The match saw a mixture of celebrities and family members connected with the charity divided into two teams; blues against reds.

A close fought contest saw the blues come out as narrow winners, eventually triumphing 7-6.

It was rounded off with a rendition of Sweet Caroline, that got the crowd on its feet.
