M2 coast-bound from Blue Bell Hill to Bredhurst closed following vehicle blaze

There were delays on a motorway due to a car fire with traffic having to be held.

The coast-bound carriageway of the M2 between Junction 3 for Blue Bell Hill and Junction 4 for Bredhurst was closed, but traffic has since been released. One lane remains closed.

The road was shut in both directions at around 9.10am. The London-bound carriageway was the first to re-open.

There's are around two miles of congestion on the approach to Junction 4. Road users have been advised to allow an extra 30 minutes on to their journeys.

Emergency services are on scene working alongside Highways England traffic officers.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson Kirsty Geary said: "We were called to a vehicle alight which was towing a horse box.

"Two fire engines attended and firefighters wearing breathing apparatus extinguished the fire.

"The horse and the horse box were not impacted by the fire, and there were no reported injuries. The cause is not yet known."
