A-listers or even royalty could don a disguise created by a Rochester designer at a prestigious charity ball.

UCA graduate Jatin Patel has made a pair of elephant masks for the masquerade fundraising bash - The Animal Ball, to be held at Clarence House, Prince Charles’ London home.

Guests, including His Royal Highness himself, actress Joanna Lumley, singer Paloma Faith and shoe designer Christian Louboutin, will handpick a disguise from a selection of elaborate masks made by British designers and then make their way into a magnificent indoor jungle.

Each room will be dedicated to a different endangered animal, creating an event safari for the guests to explore, accompanied by music from Cooling’s Jools Holland and his Rhythm and Blues Orchestra.

The event, taking place tomorrow evening (Tuesday), aims to raise more than £500,000 through tickets sales and an auction of animal sculptures.

The funds raised on the night will power a partnership between the charity Elephant Family and Habitat for Humanity, created by leading philanthropist Priya Vandrevala.

The charities are working together to solve the challenges of over population and development for both wildlife and people.

Due to the huge population booms across Asia, each year hundreds of people lose their lives and homes and millions of rupees worth of crop damage due to the elephant migration. In retaliation the local farmers are killing this endangered animal for protection of their families and livelihoods.

Over the course of 2013 and 2014, Elephant Family and Habitat for Humanity are uniting to resettle communities out of danger zones whilst also restoring the migratory routes used for millions of years by the Asian elephant.

When asked about his involvement, Jatin, who will also be attending the ball to see his masks in action, said: “I have been honoured to have been invited to take part in such a prestigious event.

"I feel proud to be working with such highly acclaimed fellow designers joining together to support this wonderful cause.”

Jatin trained at UCA in Rochester and graduated in 2006 with a masters degree in fashion and since then has been designing and creating bespoke clothing in his Rochester studio with the fashion label Kalikas Armour.

He has taken part in a number of different events and has exhibited at the London Fashion Week as well as community projects and festivals in Medway.
