A man has been found guilty of assaulting a wheelchair-user in an attack outside a branch of KFC in Medway.

Disabled Simeon Drewett told how he was pulled from his car, which was parked at Strood Retail Park, and attacked.

The incident happened on June 27 last year and Mr Drewett, who is registered disabled and in his late 40s, spoke out about his ordeal shortly afterwards because he felt there was a lack of progress with the investigation.

At the time he said he had stopped briefly outside KFC so his son Jake could grab them a quick bite to eat.

But as he did so, he said another man became angry about it and hurled verbal abuse at him.

He then hauled him out of his car and assaulted him. Mr Drewett claimed he dislocated his hip as well as suffering severe bruising.

Shoppers and a KFC employee came to his aid and called the police.

Mr Drewett, from Borstal, said at the time: "He was angry about disabled people being able to park wherever they like.

"He was swearing and shouting and then just grabbed me as I opened the car door.

"It was the shock of it all and I broke down after it happened."

Kenneth Wilcox, 66, was arrested and charged with assault. He stood trial at Medway Magistrates’ Court after previously denying the allegation.

Wilcox, of Hayley Close, Cuxton, was found guilty of the offence and was given a 12-month conditional discharge and ordered to pay £325 costs.
