Firefighters are warning about the dangers of leaving candles unattended after a dog knocked over a tealight.

Crews were called to the incident in Arnhem Drive, Wayfield, Chatham, around 9.45pm last night.

The candle had set fire to the television screen in the living room.

By the time crews arrived, most of the fire had been extinguished by the family.

Following the incident, firefighters have issued a plea to Medway residents.

A spokesman said: “Do not leave candles unattended and please don’t try to tackle the fire yourself – get out, stay out and call 999."

No one was injured in the incident.
