Driver arrested as police track down van stolen from Strood

A stolen van was found by police within 15 minutes of it being taken from a business.

Officers were called at around 11.40pm on Sunday, April 2, to reports a vehicle had just been stolen in Cedar Road, Strood, and carried out immediate inquiries in the area.

The van was tracked to the A2 where it was heading towards the Dartford Tunnel and patrols followed it until it came to a stop in heavy traffic.

Officers from the Roads Policing Unit arrested the driver on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle.

He was also detained on suspicion of drink driving after he was found to be over the limit during a roadside breath test.

The man, aged 39 from Gravesend, has since been released on police bail whilst inquiries continue.
