A drug driving arrest has been made after four people were taken to hospital after being hit by a car.

Two youngsters, a man and a woman, were knocked down in Dock Road, Chatham, last night.

Witnesses at the scene said police were also asking residents of the road for any doorbell footage.

The driver, who is in her 30s and from Chatham, was later released pending further investigation.

One resident living near to the scene described how they heard the crash and looked out to find a 'chaotic' scene.

"I heard what sounded like an engine revving, then screams and a crash; then there was a girl crying.

"I looked outside and saw the aftermath - the cars were on this side of the road (northbound). It looked like one of them had spun around - a silver sedan - it was on this side of the road but was facing down the hill. There was car behind it facing up the hill.

"I saw a young girl whose knee was scraped up and she was crying. She was probably about 10-years-old. There was a man whose shoulder was injured, who had a sling. I think they were both able to walk away.

"There was about 12 people standing around."

Another resident also described the scene after the crash.

"There were several police cars and police officers, and an ambulance car was there," she said. "I did see a guy who I think had been treated because he had a sling on.

"There were other people there but I didn't want to stare."

"I heard what sounded like an engine revving, then screams and a crash; then there was a girl crying."

And she said the incident was just the latest in a long list of accidents on the road.

"This bit of road is synonymous with joy riders coming down that way, from Dock Roundabout towards Chatham. I've been in touch with the council about the way traffic just charged down here.

"We've had a car come through the barriers, three years ago there was this almighty smash and a car had smashed into a couple of off duty coppers

"I've seen another guy being knocked off his bike."

"It's dodgy along here because you've also got a lot of people that walk along the road."
